Both suites come with a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, vector drawing, database, and formula applications.
Running as root is disabled on purpose. Several years ago we found that when running as root, NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice code would modify files in the NeoOffice application folder. This, in turn, caused NeoOffice to not be launchable from a shared network volume or launchable by any non-root user on a multi-user machine.
Read and writes MS formats (not full support, but IMO this is a plus, expecially for macros). Learning is fast enough, You'll manage it while working, in perfect Mac-style, with few - if any - problems. Once you're registered as a "donor" you may download major upgrades for a year or so, and often new version too. Good stability, not so memory-hungry as previous version (2.--).

All the different applications in the NeoOffice suite work well and are more than worthy replacements to the options available in Microsoft Office and iWork'08. The presentation tool is the only one I was disappointed with, as it doesn't offer as many templates or tools as I expected to create a shiny, professional presentation.
