Clever trick may be ham-fisted attempt bypass Gatekeeper protections built into macOS.
DLP products exist for corporate use, but I don't know of any lightweight + inexpensive one for personal use.
High Sierra does not load 3rd party kexts by default, but you can whitelist the LS kext in the Security Preferences.
So yes it is 99% of the time an exceptional program, but there are SOME holes that products like Adobe take advantage of when calling home. A quick hosts edit solves that if you don't want any background traffic from your apps.
In the Logs folder find the DiagnosticReports subfolder, select and delete “Little Snitch Network ” file.
